Found a VW camper in Laos

During the cold winter of december, cloud nine campers made the most of the off season with 3 weeks backpacking round cambodia, laos and thailand. We found this old VW parked in the centre of vientiane (capital of laos) and thought it looked pretty cool..

cloud nine campers brings to you for the first time ever - dubpads! the dubpads concept is quite simply longer term hire of your favourite cloud nine camper, but rather than sleeping at a campsite (although a little distance might be tempting) you will probably choose to leave it in the drive and make use of it’s sleeping and living quarters. there’s beds for up to 4 extra people, a fridge to keep your brews cold and even hobs for making tea and coffee! it lends itself as fantastic extra living space for teenagers needing a bit of independence during their break or maybe you’ll choose to use it as a hideaway from it all, should things get a little too demanding.

vw campervan hire in the autumn?

with the rather british summer now behind us, the evenings are definitely getting darker and there’s even a slight chill in the air (which i can feel seeping through the window as i sit, a-writing this blog). however, this is not to say that camping is over until next year, certainly not if you’ve got our own camper that is (or the means of hiring one!)

cloud nine campers are available for hire throughout the autumn and winter months and with as simple an addition as a small plug-in heater, they can keep you toasty-warm and snug when it’s cooler outside. some of cloud nine campers’ best camping experiences have taken place in the later months. there is little that beats taking a lazy walk on a clear autumn afternoon, perhaps ending up at a country pub for a late lunch and a glass of wine and then perhaps moseying back to your cosy camper for a litte port & stilton and a snuggle. damn it - we’ve even had a pizza delivered!

our worst winter camping experience has to be losing our kit windsurfing on Hayling Island, then after a completely exhausting and terrifying afternoon making it to the pub to find that they’d stopped serving food, then finding out that all the others had as well and ending up at our campervan hungry and approximately £2k’s worth of kit down. (that’s when we got the pizza, and we did manage to find the kit the next day, so it worked out all right in the end actually..)

one of the best has got to be taking an icey cold walk on a weekend afternoon down at Cuckmere Haven. t’was several degrees below freezing, however we had the beach to ourselves and experienced one of the best sunsets ever (and took great photos!). ended up in the nearby pub, had hearty pies and wine (which the waitress knocked over me) - it made my day, that’s usually me.

campervan holiday essentials - what do i need to bring to make my campervan holiday just dandy?

if you’re going on holiday in a cloud nine campervan then fortunately you don’t need to bring the kitchen sink, as cloud nine campers already have one. most reputable camper hire companies will have vans with cooking and washing facilities (expect a fridge, gas hobs, cooking equipment and plates, cups, cutlery etc). however, you will need food! although it’s a good call to bring stuff with you so you don’t need to deal with the thrills of tesco en route your adventure, don’t fall into the trap of feeling you have to bring everything (not whilst you’re still in sussex, anyway) food shops do still exist!

however, if you’re getting organised, we can recommend a few must haves to help make your campervan holiday go off without rumbly tummies and dry mouths. cloud nine campers are happy campers too and recommend if you pack the following you can’t go far wrong:

- bread
- milk (2 pints fits fine in a cloud nine fridge)
- butter (preferably the real stuff)
- eggs, bacon, sausages, mushrooms, beans - fry-up/breakfast material that you can cook on a gas hob
- cheese
- tomato ketchup
- a bit of salad and easy to cook veg
- pasta and pasta sauce
- chocolate (even if you’re on a diet, it is a holiday after all)
- crisps, nuts, unsalted seeds if you’re a health nut
- olive oil
- mineral water (can be used for drinking and teeth cleaning if you run out)
- beer/wine/vodka etc (except for the driver!)
- juice
